Wrestling with Resistance
You love to write/create. You have great ideas, imagination
and insights. You are talented and good at what you do.
So why is it so incredibly hard sometimes to actually
create?
Why do you have so many ways to avoid your creative
work?
Why are you better at finding excuses than sitting down
to work?
Because you don’t have a brain! None of us do! We all have
a brain system.
Just like your digestive system consists of separate
parts with separate jobs that work together to make it possible for your body to
digest food and get rid of the excess, your brain consists
of separate parts with different jobs. All those discrete parts of the brain
system collaborate remarkably well to orchestrate and monitor bodily functions
and to make human thought and consciousness possible. The human brain is truly
amazing!
Except when the different parts of the brain don’t
collaborate and you’re left thinking, “I want to write/create, BUT…”
All creative people experience resistance. Resistance is
normal. It’s part of how the human brain works. But it’s only half of how the
brain works.

The limbic brain, aka the instinctual mammal brain, cares only about being
safe and staying alive. You are literally of two minds about your creative work.
When your limbic brain takes control, you kick into survival mode, experience resistance and stop doing
what your creative brain loves to do. |
The limbic brain is the
instinctual,
fight-or-flight brain.

Your cortex, aka the executive brain, wants to
write/create. Resistance doesn’t have to be the end of the line for your
creativity. I can help you – like I’ve helped hundreds of other writers, artists
and creative people of all sorts – understand why it’s so hard to do the very
thing you love to do. I can help you stop feeling disappointed, frustrated and
guilty. I can get you past the resistance so you can keep doing what you do best
and love most.

The cortex is your creative brain.
